North Star Independent Homeschoolers

Our group recently celebrated our third-year anniversary together with a picnic at a local park! We were very honoured to have North Pole Representative John Coghill join us for the evening. Rep. Coghill thanked us for taking the full responsibility to educate our children, shared his thoughts on Alaska's independent homeschool option, shared his thoughts with us on learning being an adventure, his own children's homeschool past, his support for all Alaskan homeschoolers including those who do and do not participate in charter school programs, and more.
Thank you to all of the North Star Independent Homeschoolers' member families who came to this event and to Representative Coghill!

Two Summer Field Trips Planned!
Many, if not all, of our group member families have a keen interest in learning about Alaska's natural resources, self-sufficiency, Alaskan agriculture, and Alaska's environment. Many of us are raising and educating our children (and ourselves) to not only actively participate in Alaska's future, but to equip them with the knowledge as to make Alaska's future brighter and better than ever! We want to examine our current resources, how to best and most responsibly use these resources for a healthy Alaskan today and tomorrow, and how to find alternative resources.
Alaska has a plethora of natural resources, agricultural opportunities, and opportunities for self-sufficiency as well as sharing resources. Our group plans field trips to help us learn about these and perhaps spark an interest in further study in one or more of our group members!
We have a field trip scheduled to the Usibelli Coal Mine in July. Usibelli Coal Mine has a great website (click the underlined words above to visit it) full of interesting information.
We have a field trip scheduled for August to Calypso Farm and Ecology Center. Click the underlined words to visit Calypso's wonderful, informative, and interesting website.
